Very Important
Please remember all of our keys are hand cast works of art and
should be cut only by a professional locksmith.
The keys are not plated- they are solid in color throughout. If a key darkens it
can be polished with a jewelry cloth.
There are basically two key blanks used in the United States- Schlage (which is
also a Baldwin) and Kwikset. The blanks themselves say on the top what they
are but you’ll notice the shapes are different as well.
Kwikset is the rounded top and Schlage/Baldwin is more a diamond shape. Although
different companies make different shaped “tops” on their keys it is the blade
itself that is important- you can’t cut a Schlage on a Kwikset and vies versa.
You’ll notice when the keys are facing the same way as shown below the Kwikset
has an extra groove where the Schlage/Baldwin is smooth.
